EASY FLATBREAD (an update)

EASY FLATBREAD (an update)

I’ve been making my own pita bread for a number of years now because…well…because it’s too easy not to ((link here to my old recipe: Stove Top Pita). Recently though I  ran across an even easier method.  No yeast required with very little kneading and I’m liking the results even better.  Once the dough is mixed you need only 30 minutes of rest time before forming. It makes eight 8” rounds, Add a pinch or two of dried  herbs or…

2018 RECIPE REVIEW

2018 RECIPE REVIEW

My Happy New Year greeting is a little late, I know.  Stuff seems to always get in the way and before I realize it another month has passed.  I have been busy though, trying very hard to keep my resolutions and am proud of what has been achieved so far.  Decluttering with minimalizing my possessions and consistent exercising tops the list…which is probably why blogging and recipe development have been pushed aside. Curious about how the year went as far…

HALIFAX DONAIR PIZZA

HALIFAX DONAIR PIZZA

The trouble with setting goals is that you’re constantly working toward what you used to want.” According to Sarah Manguso author of 300 Arguments.  No wonder my goal-setting isn’t working out for me these days. My mind is a pinball machine this week.  ‘Ping’…change direction….’Ping’…there I go again…’Ping’…oooh, I think I’ll try that! Someone mentioned Donair Pizza and all of a sudden I was craving….you guessed it…Donair Pizza. ‘Ping’ Halifax Donair meat One loaf for slicing now.  One loaf to…

MEAT ‘n POTATOES PIZZA

MEAT ‘n POTATOES PIZZA

By now you likely know much I love leftovers.  Cooking once so we can eat two or three times just makes so much sense for us in my little galley.  Tonight I had extra portions of meatloaf and mashed potatoes with a few Brussels sprouts in the boat cooler. Captain had a hunger on for pizza so I threw together this next recipe using my now favourite grilled pizza rounds and every last leftover scrap. Meat and potatoes doesn’t usually…

SLOW COOKER PIZZA – an experiment

SLOW COOKER PIZZA – an experiment

Here’s an interesting way to get your pizza fix.  Use your slow cooker.  I made up a batch of my one and only pizza dough (recipe here) and laid it out nicely in the bottom of the slow cooker pot. Next, came the toppings.  I kept this one simple with spicy sausage, caramelized onion and lots of cheese. Then I put the lid on loosely over a tea towel, set cooking time on high for four hours and walked away….hoping…

CHEESY ARTICHOKE DIP PIZZA

CHEESY ARTICHOKE DIP PIZZA

For this next deeelightful recipe I used my recipe for Artichoke Dip as inspiration (recipe link here) and modified it somewhat for this Friday pizza party.  Trying to insert more greens into our diet (doctor’s orders), I chopped a few Brussels sprouts to add to the mix. And although I have several recipes for pizza dough, the one that I’ve been using lately has become my one and only.  Takes very little time to proof and has yet to fail…

SAUSAGE FENNEL APPLE PIZZA

SAUSAGE FENNEL APPLE PIZZA

Oh pizza!  That perfect food! That combination of sometimes snack food, sometimes complete meal and in my galley, always reasonably healthy.  I’ve never understood why it’s called junk food by some because when you make everything yourself with fresh ingredients how could this creation be anything but the next thing to perfection ever. Firstly, let’s make the dough. I’ve created a separate recipe card below so you can print it for future pizzas.  It’s fool proof!  No kidding!  And if…

STOVE TOP MEATZA PIE

STOVE TOP MEATZA PIE

Starting at the beginning of this month Captain and I began our annual food consumption reset.  I don’t like calling it a diet although to some it will seem severely restricting which in my mind is what some diets seem to be all about.  The Whole30 plan is meant primarily for people who have dietary issues such as gluten or dairy or other intolerances.  We have none that we are aware of and since we don’t, I’m not comfortable about…

CARROT TOP PESTO PIZZA

CARROT TOP PESTO PIZZA

Today we are taking a little break from my ‘potatoes in disguise’ posts. When I wrote about discovering that carrot tops were edible and could be transformed into pesto (recipe found here) my husband and co-captain, François, commented that it would be great used in a pizza, his all time fave food. For a while now he has patiently put up with my food mood ‘du jour’, Day after day he has waited patiently for his pizza, …until tonight. Tonight…
