STOVE TOP MEATZA PIE

STOVE TOP MEATZA PIE

Starting at the beginning of this month Captain and I began our annual food consumption reset.  I don’t like calling it a diet although to some it will seem severely restricting which in my mind is what some diets seem to be all about.  The Whole30 plan is meant primarily for people who have dietary issues such as gluten or dairy or other intolerances.  We have none that we are aware of and since we don’t, I’m not comfortable about…

ROAD TRIP

ROAD TRIP

The end of our thirty day Whole30 quest is not the end of our Whole30 quest. Each eliminated food group has to be re-introduced one by one. At the time of this road trip we have added non-grain alcohol/wine back into the mix….obviously not to be included in our road trip menu. We did however toast our success on Day 30 +1 with a very fine potato vodka….just a splash…not shaken…not stirred. We are allowed lentils though. What can I do with…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 29 and 30

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 29 and 30

Morning has broken on our final Whole 30 day. Looking back over the month, I can’t think of anything I would have done differently.  Variety in our meals made it all very enjoyable.  Good planning was key to keeping on track. I found the creativity of finding substitutes for some things (mostly condiments) challenging but there is a whole world wide web of exciting recipes to choose from. We never felt deprived.  There were a few times we would loved…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 23 and 24

I’m one lucky Galley Kat this week. Not only did my daughter prepare us her Shakshuka, (her super delicious recipe here) Captain François decided to treat us to one of his faves for supper. On to the menu board for today… Breakfast Sweet Potato Sausage Pie I omitted the cheese this time and went back to my butcher for Whole 30 compliant sausage (click on image for recipe link) Lunch Pineapple Chicken Lettuce Wraps No recipe needed but this is…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 15 and 16

What an interesting journey this is turning out to be! It’s challenging me to create meals within certain parameters all the while staving off boredom. It does take a bit of extra work and for sure planning and prepping seems to be the key. Having a willing, enthusiastic and focused partner has kept me on track. So at the half way point of our Whole 3o Challenge on the menu board for today… Breakfast Prosciutto-Wrapped Mini Meatloaves I simply put…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 11 and 12

One of the challenges of this Whole30 adventure so far is finding things like sausage that don’t use grains as a binder. Sure we could choose to give it up for the sake of 30 days but I have a craving for sausage and sauerkraut and apparently cravings is one of those side effects at this stage of the game. Scoring some gluten-free sausage at our local market has allowed me to scratch that itch. On the menu board for…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 9 and 10

Still going strong and 1/3 of the way through our Whole 30 Challenge So far we haven’t felt any major symptoms nor have we missed the things we’ve put aside for the 30 days. (sugar, grains, legumes, dairy and alcohol) On the menu board for breakfast today Eggs Benedict with Avocado Hollandaise minus the English muffin (recipe for Avocado Hollandaise here) For lunch a belly warming cup of Tomato Soup (my recipe here) For supper tonight Easy Slow Cooker Lemon…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 7 and 8

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 7 and 8

“Like Sex With Your Pants On”… tee hee! That’s going to raise a few eyebrows. This is where  Whole 30  and I may not entirely agree. I understand the concept  and if you would like to read about their very amusing analogy you can find the article here. It’s when it comes to making crêpes or pancakes that I disagree, somewhat. Thing is, sometimes we actually do enjoy  no-flour pancakes. I mean really enjoy. And not because we are avoiding flour….

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 3 and 4

Still breathing, still kicking, still haven’t killed each other. According to the Whole 30 timeline we are about to hit the ‘Kill all things‘ phase, so I planned our meals with lots of carb-dense veggies to help offset any carbohydrate withdrawl. On Day 3 though there was a moment when I felt a serious PMS session coming on but without the P or the M. At one point, François said: “Leave it to me to find your one last nerve!”…

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 1 and 2

DIETARY REBOOT – Days 1 and 2

Here I am at the end of the second day of our Whole30 challenge. Still feeling great and proud of ourselves. We woke earlier than usual filled with energy. The reason for combining the first and second day is because it was easier for me to make enough on day one for leftovers on day two. A good strategy I think. The key to success is in the planning.   For breakfast we enjoyed this BLT Salad with a simple…
