LUNAR NEW YEAR 2023 – year of the cat (new recipe included)

Hello all you Galley friends.  Soon it will be the beginning of the Lunar New Year.  Last year, was my year according to Chinese tradition….the Year of the Tiger…so fitting for this Galley Kat isn’t it? And when I checked for this year 2023, I found that in the Vietnam culture it’s the Year of the Cat so thought it fitting to introduce you to […]

Hi there Galley Folks.  I’ve been pantry diving again, searching for easy to make meals with things typically on hand. The likes of canned salmon, tuna or crab.  The likes of frozen puff pastry.  Add to this an egg, some cheese and chopped veggies and you have a delicious little meal of hand pies. Once I thawed the pastry, I cut it into squares.  And […]

Good day to all you Galley friends, this week, directly from our camper.  We are enjoying a few days away from our little home by the sea at a camp ground…also by the sea. I brought with me the ingredients for making some of my protein packed bites…this time made with canned tuna.  They are super easy to throw together. Make a great little road […]

Good day to you all my Galley Friends.  I hope you are all well and ready for another treat from my little kitchen.  I must admit, that I really have been missing our dear sail boat, and when meal time rolls around I especially miss my very compact but efficient galley. Cooking minimally has become so engrained, that even with more conventional appliances, I still […]

I have a simple dinner for you today my Galley Peeps. Delicate white fish, some salad crab and buttery crackers crumbs, cooked to perfection in barely 20 minutes. The preparation was super simple too. Fish in pan, a couple of grinds of salt and pepper.  Crumbs, melted butter, seasonings all mixed with crab meat. Sprinkled generously over the fish. Baked. Could it be any easier? […]

I promise to be more attentive in the future.  As an apology  I’m offering a very easy and super tasty meal for you.  A two for one. The warm Brussels sprout salad could easily be […]

Hi all you Galley Kat Peeps. I thought that this month instead of a collection of your most viewed recipes, I’d re-post my favourite chowder recipes. Last week’s post of Fisherman’s Stew was one of your most searched of my little galley recipes this month (you can find that recipe here). Is it maybe because the time of year with changing leaves, crisp cool days […]

We recently took a vacation from our little home by the sea to visit Cape Breton and the beautiful Cabot Trail.  Fall….in my opinion…. is the best season in Nova Scotia.  Crisp cool air and oh those spectacular turning leaves! Our final meal before returning home was at a small quirky little restaurant in Louisbourg.  Actually it was the only restaurant open as being a […]

My this month went quickly didn’t it?  And here we are again into fall and the beautiful weather that comes with it…and October.  October!  I barely can remember what happened in September, the days just flew by. I can see by the most viewed recipes that you too are getting into the cooler weather frame of mind with spicey sauces, apple dishes, belly warming chicken […]

Adding to my recent keep-it-local kick, I ordered ten pounds of fresh haddock from a local fisherman.  Ten pounds is a lot of fish, I’ve found out.  I vacuum sealed sixteen portions to freeze for future meals.  Sixteen!  Hardly a practice I’d undertake on our small boat for sure, but oh how delicious and what a treat for me to be able to dig into […]
