I honestly don’t know what else to call this…pan release maybe? not Pam because I can’t spray it.
The main issue is not what to call it but does it work? Onboard as you by now know, I don’t have an oven but when one is needed I use my little stove-top Omnia Oven. We found it so useful that Captain suggested we have one for land use and one for the boat. The only problem with it is that unless it is well greased, things tend to stick and since water supply is limited on the boat,
I hate to have to soak anything unless absolutely necessary. Spraying the pan with cooking oil doesn’t work well and I am not a big fan of PAM. Using lots of butter has worked fairly well until I stumbled onto several recipes for Homemade Pan Release which I call GOOP.
So here it goes.
My first GOOP-ing experience for the whole world to see…
GOOP – the recipe
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup grape seed oil or other neutral tasting oil
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Mix all together until well combined.
Store in little mason jars until ready to use.
Spread onto cooking surface with a basting brush.
to see how it worked.
