THE FORCE COCKTAIL: Enjoy This You Will
Inspired by a recipe made with Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur,
I decided to make my own very easy version of ginger liqueur,
partly because the recipe looked really refreshing,
partly because I love the taste of ginger in Asian inspired cooking,
and partly because on a boat when it’s rockin’ and rollin’
a little sip of something ginger can help to alleviate seasickness.
The addition of vodka is optional of course,
especially if the syrup will be used as a seasickness remedy,
but if you do, it’s probably a good idea to store in the refrigerator.
GINGER LIQUEUR
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tbsp orange zest
3 tbsp peeled sliced ginger (more if you wish)
1 cup vodka
Simmer sugar and water until sugar dissolves.
Remove from the heat, add ginger and orange zest.
Cover and let steep for 1 hour.
When slightly cooled add vodka, bottle and let sit for three days.
After three days of stewing, strain out the ginger and orange
and store liqueur in a sealed glass jar.
Now on to the testing of…
The opening of the new Star Wars movie
just begged for another of our cosmic smuggling escapades,
and the perfect time to sample…
