DIETARY REBOOT – DAY ZERO

DIETARY REBOOT
DAY ZERO
For a while now Captain and I have felt generally unwell.
You know the feeling when you have eaten too much,
that bloaty puffy feeling.
Nothing really specific,
just bleh.
And the earth’s force of gravity has had a significant effect on our bathroom scales.
So here it is, my latest Galley Kat Rant…
I stumbled onto the recent craze in dieting called Whole30.
You can read all about it here if you wish.
Now, I have to preface all this by saying,
we don’t do diet (could be part of our problem?)
Even the word diet should be considered a nasty four letter word.
We enjoy a fairly healthy, well-balanced regimen
and rarely overindulge in junk food.
We eat fresh and local whenever possible
and I try my best to stay away from foods with additives.
Since retiring though,
we haven’t been as physically active in the winter months
although summer on the boat provides more than enough movement.
We consume more wine than we did years ago
and the one scotch that was once our Friday Happy Hour evening cocktail
has become an almost daily routine.
But back to this reset reboot thing.
The precept is that we need to eliminate all added sugars, grains, legumes, dairy and alcohol
for a period of 30 days.
I hate the idea of the dietary imbalance but 30 days we can manage.
I plan on being brutally honest
and if we slip just once we’ll have to return to the start line
Blogging about the journey will help us chronicle our progress.
Today is DAY ZERO
when I plan menues for the next few days,
shop for supplies
and lock away or discard any temptations.
Next up, Day 1 and Day 2…
[…] two days what we are eating, featuring new galley recipes, but if you are interested you can start here on our day zero, the day I provisioned and stocked the refrigerator and pantry then click ahead […]
