CAPTAIN COOKS: Grilled Beer Marinated Ham

CAPTAIN COOKS: Grilled Beer Marinated Ham
My man is at it again
and voluntarily too.
After the encouragingly huge success of his
Marinated Ginger Tuna Steak (recipe link here),
he asked to enter my galley arena once more.
We recently enjoyed an evening with a group of boat friends at a pot luck house party.
Someone’s contribution was ham cooked in beer.
Divinely delicious!
…which inspired Captain’s latest creation.
what you’ll need
Ham steaks, about 6
Captain used a piece of cooked ham
about 4″x6″ which he sliced into 6 steaks.
for marinade
1 tbsp whole cloves
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 can Guinness beer

putting it all together

Into a food container or plastic food bag

mix all marinade ingredients.

Add the ham pieces and refrigerate covered for at least 1 hour.

Captain prepared to this point early in the day for the evening meal.

When ready, heat your grill pan on high.

Remove ham from marinade, reserving about 1/2 cup of liquid.

Sear the ham about 3 minutes each side.

Remove meat from pan and add the reserved marinade

simmering until reduced and thickened.

When the marinade reaches a good glazing consistency,

return ham to pan, flipping every minute or two until well coated.

Serve with your favourite side dish.
Ours tonight was warm Sweet Potato Salad.
(recipe to follow soon, I promise)
